There will be three group matches, one round of 16 matches
The format will be the same for UEFA EURO 2016. The top two in each of the six final tournament groups will advance to the Round of 16 along with the four best third-placed teams.
The opening match will take place in Rome, and the automatically qualified host nations are placed in the following groups:

*Guaranteed to play all three group stage matches at home after qualifying through the European Qualifiers. With Russia and Denmark both reaching UEFA EURO 2020 via the European Qualifiers, an additional draw was held on 22 November 2019 to determine the team that will play all three group stage matches at home; Denmark will play three home games, and Russia's two matches.
