As locust swarms moved from Ethiopia and Somalia to northeastern Kenya on December 28, 2019. The risk remains that some swarms may occur in northeastern Uganda and southeastern Sudan.

The statement stressed that the locust threat exists and develops along both sides of the Red Sea, due to the continuous multiplication of locust numbers on the coasts of Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
A widespread locust outbreak and hatchery occurred in Saudi Arabia and led to the appearance of numerous hopper locust groups, and a few immature swarms moved inward in late December.
In its statement, the organization stated that the most dangerous locusts continue on the Red Sea coast in Yemen, as more swarms are likely to form in both countries later in January.
