Fog causes the postponement of at least 30 flights in India

Arabia Weather - Aviation and railway services in the Indian capital, New Delhi, were affected on Tuesday morning due to the formation of a dense layer of fog, which led to a decrease in visibility to about 50 meters in some areas.

The Indian Meteorological Department reported that the city is witnessing "very dense fog", and reports indicate that the temperature has dropped to only nine degrees Celsius, indicating the possibility of "dense to very dense fog" continuing in some areas until Wednesday.

The administration warns that the "dense smog" contains particles and other pollutants, and warns of its negative impact on the health of the city's 20 million residents.

The air quality index in New Delhi recorded a value of 376 on Tuesday morning, which is classified as a “very poor” level, according to the website of the Central Pollution Control Board.

Thick fog had caused the postponement of at least 30 flights that were scheduled to land or take off from Delhi airport. The fog also affected the movement of about 14 trains crossing the regions of northern India.

The Meteorological Department notes that other areas in north India witnessed similar weather conditions on Tuesday morning, with temperatures hovering between six and ten degrees Celsius in most areas.
