Free transportation in Paris for 3 days due to `pollution`

ArabiaWeather.com- It seems that the air pollution that turned the Paris sky into a dark yellow color has a positive side for public transport users, as the authorities announced that riding all public transportation in the Paris region and two other cities will be free during the next three days.

And declared a state of alert in almost three-quarters of France after the European Environment Agency warned of what it described as “the worst wave of air pollution since 2007.” And from Friday until next Sunday, public transport can be taken from buses and trains for free in the entire Paris region, as well as in the cities of Caen and Rouen.

Public bicycles, which are provided by the local authorities for a fee, can also be used free of charge, as well as cars under short-term temporary rental programmes.

Meteorologists say the unusually warm weather, which followed several cold nights, made the situation worse.

An environmental group filed a complaint earlier this week denouncing "government laziness" which it says has endangered people's lives.
