The number of visitors to the Pink City for the month of September reached 23,751 visitors of all nationalities, including 12,637 foreign visitors, 8,161 Jordanian visitors, and 2,946 Arab visitors, compared to 16,381 visitors for the same period last year, including only 219 foreign visitors and 16,381 Jordanians. The statistics did not record any visit from Arab nationalities during the same month last year.

Chairman of the Petra Regional Authority Board of Commissioners, Suleiman Al-Farajat, said in a press statement, "The increase in the number of foreign visitors to Petra gave indications for the start of the recovery of the tourism sector in Petra, and worked on the return of hotel establishments, restaurants, shops and tourist bazaars to practice their work, in addition to revitalizing the commercial movement in the region." "
Farajat expected that the number of foreign tourists will increase significantly at the beginning of next November, due to the start of low-cost flights subsidized by the government.
He added that the authority worked, during the period of stopping tourism, to rehabilitate and restore the paths at the archaeological site of Petra, and opened several new projects that it had previously worked on, such as the heritage village.
Al-Farajat indicated that the authority has developed a new transport plan in the area, where it opened the arterial bridge linking the Wadi Musa area with the tourist street, which it is currently working to rehabilitate. It also replaced horse-drawn carts with environmentally friendly electric cars, and a new plan to link the heritage village to the archaeological site and the Petra Visitor Center.
The Corona pandemic had affected the tourism sector in Petra, as many facilities closed their doors due to the epidemiological situation that affected all countries of the world, affecting more than 80% of the residents of the Petra region due to the interruption of the tourism movement.
