Arab Weather - The head of the National Center for Communicable Diseases and Epidemics Control, Dr. Adel Al-Balbeisi, denied the accuracy of the news circulating about recording infections with the "HMPV" virus in Jordan, stressing that what is being circulated is just rumors. Al-Balbeisi explained in his statement to the media that the center and the Ministry of Health are committed to informing citizens daily about the developments of the virus.
Dr. Al-Balbeisi confirmed that the HMPV virus is a respiratory disease similar to other respiratory diseases, and those infected with it suffer from symptoms similar to the flu. He added that most cases recover within a few days without the need for special treatment.
Al-Balbeisi pointed out that the disease does not pose a serious threat in general, noting that deaths resulting from infection with the "HMPV" virus are extremely rare. However, he warned that children under one year of age or those who are not older than five years, and the elderly over the age of 65, may be more susceptible to complications such as pneumonia, which may require hospitalization.
Dr. Al-Balbeisi confirmed that there are no plans to close schools or impose closures in Jordan due to the virus, stressing the need to adhere to receiving information from official sources and avoiding rumors.
