The Arab Weather Center issued a report evaluating the rainfall situation in Jordan after the impact of the recent low pressure system, which brought good amounts of rain, thank God, after the Kingdom had suffered from a significant rainfall deficit since the beginning of the season.
Rainfall performance is defined as the actual amount of rainfall that fell during the rainy season compared to what was supposed to fall based on the climatic averages of rainfall during the past 30 years. Data issued by the Jordan Meteorological Department show that the rainfall performance for this season until 12/29/2024 was suffering from a significant deficiency compared to what was supposed in all governorates of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom was affected during the last two days of December by a low pressure system that caused heavy rains in many regions, which contributed to adjusting the performance of the rainy season to higher rates than they were before the low pressure system, thank God. The following are the percentages of the performance of the rainy season in the regions and governorates of the Kingdom:
Positively, Arab Weather experts explain that the final total for the rainy season does not depend only on the rainfall that falls in the fall, but the final rainfall amounts can change positively in the event of major weather conditions in the winter seasons. Some seasons that did not witness good rainfall in the fall witnessed seasonal rainfall totals that were recorded around or above seasonal averages at the end of the season.
Despite the weak rainfall performance at the beginning of this season, Arab Weather experts confirm that climate patterns in Jordan are characterized by fluctuations, and it is not possible to assert a lack of rainfall for an entire season based on a weak start. Therefore, it is expected that there will be opportunities for increased rainfall in the coming winter seasons, which will contribute to improving rainfall performance in the Kingdom.
