Weather of Arabia - The German Authority for Quality Control said that when a car is exposed to slipping on water while driving on a wet road, for example, it becomes floating in the literal sense of the word and cannot be steered; Since the wheels are not able to drain large amounts of water through the tire tread.
Regarding how to act in this situation, the authority recommended not to move the steering wheel while slowing down and braking. The car may not be steered again, except when the wheels touch the road again.
The risk of a car slipping can be inferred from the loud noise made by water in the wheel housing or the bottom of the car, in addition to the uncontrolled rotation of the wheels or the lack of response of the steering wheel.
In general, the authority advises when driving on wet roads to gently press the brake pedal from time to time; Because this helps to dry the pads and discs to do their work in emergency situations, knowing that modern and luxury models do this automatically. The authority's experts pointed out that the deeper the tire tread, the better the car deals with wet roads.
Tires with a tread depth of 7 millimeters or more can drain water up to a speed of 80 km/h, while tires with a tread depth of 3 millimeters can drain water up to a speed of 70 km/h. Tires can lose contact with the road at a speed of 50 km/h if the tread depth is less than 1.6 mm.
