Arab Weather - The latest updates on the tropical cyclone Maha in the Arabian Sea indicate that it continues to be classified as a Category 3 hurricane on Monday, and is currently between 700-730 km from the nearest point on the coast of Oman.
The hurricane is expected to move in the next 24 hours in the north and northwest direction, but then begin to swiftly move eastward with a clear decline in strength between Tuesday and Wednesday, moving away from Omani coasts and approaching the Indian coasts.
Consequently, the expected impacts on Oman will remain indirect, in the form of high waves on the south and southeast coasts of the Sultanate and wind speed activity, and the chance of showers in limited parts, especially in the southeast.
While the Indian state of Gujarat is expected to receive direct effects from this tropical system, but after turning into a tropical storm this weekend in the form of heavy rain and active winds and warning of floods in those areas.
