Weather of Arabia - Sinan Khalaf - in a rare incident, and unlike the nature on which it was created, the first case of pregnancy of a female crocodile was recorded without the presence of a male, in what is known as "self-reproduction", which was not previously monitored in the world of crocodiles.
The 18-year-old female American alligator laid an egg and the embryo was fully formed inside it, but it was hypocritical and the egg did not hatch.
For its part, Park Reptilandia, in which the incident was recorded in Costa Rica, announced that the 18-year-old female crocodile had been isolated and lived alone since she was two years old, which amazed those in charge of the park, and necessitated a genetic examination that proved that the fetus was identical. to his mother in terms of genetics by 99.9 percent.
And those in charge of the park confirmed that the female crocodile laid one egg, and the embryo was fully formed inside it, but it was hypocritical and the egg did not hatch.
It is a natural phenomenon that occurs in species of birds, fish, and reptiles, but it has never been recorded in crocodiles. Pregnancy is common when the female egg undergoes fertilization from the male, but the females of some animals get pregnant, even if they are far from the males.
Scientists believe that this matter is mainly due to an evolutionary genetic component, and according to the study published in "Biology Lighter", which specializes in biology, the phenomenon of self-reproduction may be widespread among crocodiles, but it has not been observed before.
