On Wednesday 1/26/2022, the Kingdom was affected by a low-pressure system accompanied by a very cold air mass of polar origin, classified as a fourth-degree system according to the “Arab Weather” low-pressure system classification scale.

The Kingdom began to be affected by the cold air mass front in the early hours of Wednesday 1-26-2022, as the weather was partly cloudy to cloudy with clear activity in wind speed, which was sometimes accompanied by strong gusts with showers of rain.

An effective polar air front crossed the area on Wednesday afternoon and evening, 1/26/2022, causing a significant drop in temperatures and an increase in wind speed. Mountain heights above 1,000 meters received snow on Wednesday evening, and the snow gradually extended to heights 800 meters above sea level.

Snow continued to fall throughout Wednesday night and Wednesday/Thursday night until the following morning, 1/27/2022, as everyone woke up to a large accumulation of snow of nearly half a meter in some of the high neighborhoods of the capital, Amman, and the snow covered most of the highlands in the north and center that are more than 700 meters above sea level.

Experts at "Arab Weather" said that the winter seasons in the Kingdom differ every year, and the reason is due to the difference in the movement of the atmosphere and the factors affecting it, as we may be affected in some years by rainy, cold and perhaps snowy seasons, which are met by dry, warm years with little rain and snow.

The experts added that the Kingdom is located at 35 degrees north latitude and is considered closer to the semi-tropical latitudes, as the Kingdom's climate varies every year depending on the strength of the jet stream's rush towards the region and the ease of cold air masses reaching it.

Also, weather phenomena such as El Nino and La Nina and the temperature of the seas and oceans affect the climate of the region, as the Kingdom is statistically affected by rainy and humid seasons in El Nino years, while it is less rainy and cooler in La Nina seasons.
