Arab Weather - Tonight is different from the rest of the nights of the year, as the countries of the northern hemisphere, including the Arab world, witness the longest night of the year, coinciding with the shortest day.
This event is known as the " winter solstice ", which falls on December 22. On this day, the sun takes its shortest path in the sky, making the day shorter than usual, with the day (depending on the region) extending between 10 and 11 hours, while the night hours will reach about 13-14 hours.
Daylight hours get noticeably shorter the closer we get to the North Pole during the winter solstice.
For example, in Oslo, Norway, the sun rises at 9:17 a.m. and sets at 3:11 p.m., making the difference obvious.
In Nome, Alaska, residents experience very short days, with daylight lasting only three hours and 54 minutes.
However, this is generous compared to Prudhoe Bay in Alaska, located within the Arctic Circle, which is completely plunged into darkness without seeing a single ray of sunlight.
