It is noteworthy that the city of Gaza was founded in the fifteenth century BC at the hands of the Canaanites, and it was occupied by many invaders, such as the Pharaohs, the Greeks, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Ottomans, and others.

In the year 635 AD, the Arab Muslims entered the city and it became an important Islamic center, especially since it is famous for the presence of the tomb of the second grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad, Hashem bin Abd Manaf, which is why it is sometimes called Gaza Hashim.

The city is considered the birthplace of Imam al-Shafi’i, who was born in 767 AD and is one of the four imams of the Sunni Muslims.
