ArabiaWeather.com- Indonesia is currently seeking to increase its existing pledges to reduce carbon emissions, as a final decision will be taken by mid-September, according to the Presidential Envoy on Climate Change, Ratchmat Witolar.
Indonesia will play a major role in the United Nations climate conference, which will be held in Paris this year, and aims to come up with a plan to mitigate global warming.
Indonesia is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases due to deforestation, agricultural soil degradation and forest fires, according to Reuters.
The international community is putting a lot of pressure on Indonesia, which has the largest economy in Southeast Asia, to stop deforestation and destroy agricultural soils and carbon-rich forests.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia, which is the largest producer of palm oil and which includes the third largest tropical forests in the world, had pledged to reduce carbon emissions by 26% by 2020 or up to 41% with financial and other assistance from rich countries.
