Innovative `asphalt` that absorbs water to combat torrents and floods in America

ArabiaWeather.com - "Supersait.org" highlighted an innovation launched by the "Topmix" company in America, which is a type of permeable asphalt that can absorb water from the streets quickly and directly in the event of floods, torrents, or storms accompanied by heavy rain.

By using this asphalt, governments can reduce flood removal costs as well as save maintenance expenses as it can absorb approximately 600 liters of water per minute per square metre.

The idea of this asphalt is based on the use of a larger type of gravel compared to its regular counterpart, which allows water to seep and then be collected in the drainage pipes at the bottom, and thus this project is considered to save and benefit from water resources.

And Sky News reported, quoting a statement by Topmix, that this asphalt will not only save water and combat torrents and floods, but will also help reduce road temperatures during heat waves based on the evaporation of water that has collected in the drainage pipes and cools the streets.
