ArabiaWeather.com - Scientists from Stanford University in California have created a battery made of aluminum for use in smartphones. They're cheap, long-lasting, flexible, and recharge in just one minute.

The scientific journal "Nature" published the details of the new invention, and indicated that the new "aluminum-ion" battery will replace the "lithium-ion" batteries used in millions of personal computers and mobile phones.

Chemistry professor Hong Ji Dai, who supervised the research, confirmed that the new battery is fast charging and safer than the currently used lithium-ion batteries, which sometimes explode.

It is noteworthy that scientists have tried for a long time to make batteries out of aluminum, which is a relatively cheap and lightweight metal characterized by a high charging capacity, but they were unsuccessful, until the scientist "Day" was able to discover that graphite was the opposite pole of aluminum.

In the prototype of the new battery, aluminum represents the negatively charged electrode, or anode, while graphite is the positively charged electrode, or cathode.
