Iraq | Warning of a real danger threatening crops due to a new freezing wave, starting from Wednesday/Thursday night

Arab Weather - The weather forecast staff at the Arab Regional Weather Center is expected to deepen the impact of the new, very cold Siberian polar air mass to be stationed over Iraq on Wednesday / Thursday night, which leads to the flow of cold northwestern winds, as temperatures drop sharply and tangibly, bringing temperatures below Zero percent in large areas of western and northern Iraq, and the roads are still wet, which leads to the formation of a large-scale ice wave over those areas. The ice formation includes internal and external roads in cities, which poses a real danger when walking on the roads.

While the rest of the regions witness very cold weather and temperatures are very low, reaching only 6 degrees Celsius in the capital, Baghdad, while they are slightly higher in the southern regions.

More cold Siberian arctic winds flow towards Iraq Thursday/Friday night and temperatures around zero degrees Celsius in Baghdad

The Siberian polar air mass is moving towards the south and pushing freezing cold winds towards all regions of Iraq on Thursday/Friday night, as temperatures drop in all regions of the country to be below zero by about 14 degrees Celsius in the northern peaks or more than that in some peaks, while it is between 12- to 4- degrees Celsius in the northern and western regions, while the temperatures are between 1 and 2- in the rest of the central and southern regions, and the temperatures are touching zero degrees Celsius in the capital, Baghdad again.

With the formation of frost and freezing in large areas of the country, and ice forming in the wet roads amidst unusual for Iraq to witness for several continuous days and Siberian polar temperatures with distinction.

Negative temperatures continue into the weekend

While it is expected, God willing, that Iraq will continue to be affected by polar winds at the end of the week, as temperatures remain below zero degrees Celsius with weekend nights in large areas of Iraq, and thus frost, freezing and possibly ice will continue to form on wet roads.

In light of the expected weather conditions, the Arab Weather Center advises the need to pay attention to the danger of freezing and icing, which poses a danger to driving on the roads and to livestock plants, so it is advised to take the necessary measures, reduce and not drive on roads that witness the formation of ice, in addition to covering exposed pipes and placing antifreeze in vehicles .
