Arab Weather - Director of the Jordanian Federation of Insurance Companies Maher Al-Hussein said that traffic accidents that occurred during the depression related to snow are not covered by the insurance companies.
Al-Hussein added that these accidents resulting from slides due to snow were caused by natural disasters, which is not included in the insurance policy.
He indicated that the compulsory insurance company undertakes to cover the civil liability of the person who caused the accident, and if the court considers the existing case not covered by the civil law, and considers it force majeure, then neither the insurance company nor the person who caused the accident is responsible.
Al-Hussein explained that 99% of comprehensive insurance contracts in the Kingdom include collision, fire and theft accidents, and exclude the risk of natural disasters.
Al-Hussein was surprised by the state of recklessness that occurred by some citizens during the snowfall, and the failure to adhere to the advice and instructions given by the concerned authorities and the public security not to leave homes except for the most urgent necessity.
On comprehensive insurance, Al-Hussein said that if the insurance policy includes a “contract between the two parties” covering natural disasters, the insurance company must cover the damages resulting from the accident.
He indicated that any person affected by traffic accidents has the right to resort to the judiciary, and at that time the court's decision is binding on both parties.
For his part, the lawyer who specializes in traffic accidents, Muhammad al-Rudaini, said that accidents resulting from natural disasters such as snow are not covered by compulsory insurance.
He pointed out that there are conditions to cover traffic accidents for vehicles covered by comprehensive insurance, according to conditions previously agreed upon between the vehicle owner and the insurance company.
