Arab Weather - Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Al-Saud said on Tuesday that the water situation in Jordan is bad, commenting on the delay in the rainy season, which affects the amount of water in dams and water basins.
Abu Al-Saud explained, during the parliamentary financial committee’s discussion of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, that the upcoming summer season is “difficult,” noting that climate change plays a negative role in the issue of rain, and the factors of asylum from neighboring countries have contributed to water consumption in Jordan.
Regarding the national carrier project, Abu Al-Saud pointed out that it is an expensive project, but Jordan is in dire need of this project.
He explained that a station in the project will desalinate 300 million cubic meters of water annually from Aqaba, to transport the water over a distance of 450 km. The national carrier project will also contribute to preserving the individual’s share of water and will help many economic, agricultural and tourism sectors to sustain their work.
Abu Al-Saud revealed that the technical specifications will be modified in a way that does not affect the project in terms of stations, distribution areas, and all technical matters, in a way that saves operational and capital costs, for the purpose of saving the price of a meter of water for the citizen and various sectors as well.
