Weather of Arabia - In a rare phenomenon that Jordanians monitored in the northern regions of the Kingdom, some trees and plants bloomed very early due to the dominance of warm weather in the heart of winter during the month of January. Is this a good or bad thing?

Most of the days of January, the Kingdom witnessed an almost complete absence of the main important weather events, and temperatures were higher than their average for this time of the year in most periods of the month. On Friday and Saturday, January 27-28, 2023, the Kingdom was exposed to an air mass with temperatures much warmer than what We are used to it for this time of year, as temperatures in many areas rose to nearly 20 degrees Celsius.
Scientifically, the reason behind recording temperatures higher than average is due to the distribution of weather systems during the month of January in the northern hemisphere, as the countries of western Europe and northwestern Africa, including Morocco and Algeria, were under the influence of polar air masses of very cold origin, whose impact was reflected on the Kingdom with an air elevation. Strong in all layers of the atmosphere.
Engineer Mahmoud Al-Oran, Director General of the Jordanian Farmers Union, explained in an interview with ArabWeather that low temperatures during the winter season are beneficial for fruit trees and raise their production rate, and low temperatures during that period contribute to killing insects harmful to plants, which reduces the use of pesticides.
Because of the absence of cold and the dominance of warm weather during the past days, the trees came out of the Dormant phase, and the almond trees bloomed early.
While some may welcome early flowering on trees, the appearance of flowers too early may make them susceptible to damage due to rain, wind, hail and frost, damaging the yield of fruit trees.
This phenomenon also carries many risks and indirect impacts on birds, insects and entire ecosystems, and this will have a significant impact on the performance and productivity of nature and agriculture.
Not all plants and animals can adapt at the same rate. If neighborhoods get out of sync with one another, a concept known as ecological mismatch, this can have dire consequences. Pollen, nectar, seeds and fruits of plants are important food resources for insects, birds and other wildlife. .
We ask God Almighty that the remaining days of winter will bring us rains of goodness and blessed gifts
