Arab Weather - The month of December ended with higher than average temperatures most days of the month, due to the effect of the warm air masses on the Kingdom, which accompanied the extension of the Red Sea depression at times, and the amounts of rain were below their usual rates for the month of December.

Following is a summary of the weather events that affected the Kingdom during the month of December 2020

• 1-2 / December / 2020 A moderate state of atmospheric instability : The eastern regions of the Kingdom were affected in early December by a moderate state of atmospheric instability that resulted in thunderstorms and hail in high intensity in some parts of the eastern desert.

4-5 / December / 2020 A strong state of air instability : During that period, the Kingdom was affected by a strong state of air instability, as heavy thunderstorms of rain fell in many regions, and heavy rains caused torrential rains to form in parts of Irbid and the capital Amman And Zarqa, and floods raided homes and shops, and torrents formed in the east of the kingdom, which caused the Baghdad International Road to be cut off in Safawi and floods raided a number of homes.

• 8-9 / December / 2020 A weak state of air instability : Parts of the Kingdom were affected during that period by a weak and limited state of air instability, which caused sporadic showers of rain, including the capital, Amman.

• 14-16 / December / 2020 Class II ( normal ) air depression : During that period, the Kingdom was affected by a second class air depression, where a cold air front crossed on December 14, causing strong southwesterly winds to blow and form dust waves in the south and east of the Kingdom. The rains also fell from the north of the Kingdom to the city of Aqaba, and as a result of the torrential thunderstorms, a partial collapse occurred along the coastal road in Aqaba, which led to the closure of the road at the two ports.

The weather also temporarily stabilized during the day of December 15th, in preparation for crossing a closed air front, which caused precipitation of varying intensity in many regions of the Kingdom, and all this preceded the crossing of a warm air front, causing a stable atmosphere and a rise in temperature, it is worth noting that the impact of the depression on the surrounding countries was on Mediterranean storm shape ( Medikin ).

• 23-24 / December / 2020 First-class depression ( weak ): During that period, the Kingdom was affected by a first-class depression, which caused a decrease in temperatures and showers of rain in some areas and the formation of dense and extensive fog.

• 26-31 / December / 2020 The extension of the Siberian highland associated with a cold and dry air mass : In the last third of the month, the Kingdom was affected by the extension of the so-called Siberian air mass, which was accompanied by a cold and dry air mass, where very cold and dry south-easterly winds blew, causing an occurrence. A clear drop in temperatures and the prevalence of cold during the day and very cold at night, with the formation of frost on many nights in the mountains of Sharah and the southern and eastern Baditain.
