Learn about the Muttrah Fort in the Sultanate of Oman

Mutrah Fort is also called "Atid Fort". It is located on the sea road in the Wilayat of Mutrah in the Governorate of Muscat and overlooks the city's port. It dates back to the sixteenth century (around the year 1580) when it was built by the Portuguese, then the Omanis took it back in the year 1650.

It was restored in 1981 to be one of the most important historical tourist attractions, which indicates the keenness of Omanis throughout history to protect their homeland.

The fort, which appears to be the only passage between Muttrah and Old Muscat, consists of three circular towers, the largest of which is located at the top, and the remaining two are distributed between the western and northern sides of the fort.

The city of Muttrah is located in the northeast of the Sultanate of Oman overlooking the Sea of Oman. Its history dates back to the third millennium BC, which makes it one of the most important cities in the Sultanate. Lots of tour groups too.

In front of many tourist attractions in Muttrah, such as the old market, the narrow path, the Corniche and the beautiful beaches, Muttrah Castle remains the main place that everyone puts on their strength, although it cannot be entered, but you can climb the outer stairs.
