Arab Weather - The Kingdom was affected during the past 24 hours by a low pressure system that was accompanied by a polar air mass of very cold origin and was accompanied by snowfall on Thursday morning. However, the snowfall was not general or comprehensive, and it did not even reach the capital, Amman. It was limited to the high mountain peaks in the governorates of Ajloun and Jerash and the peaks of Tafilah and Sharah in the south of the Kingdom.
Weather experts at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that advanced computer weather maps showed that the scientific reason for the lack of comprehensive snowfall during this depression is due to the lack of penetration of the very cold polar winds in the various layers of the atmosphere, especially the upper layers of the atmosphere, in a sufficient manner to allow for widespread snowfall. Also, the very cold air mass in the upper layers of the atmosphere did not stay long, and crossed on Thursday morning, but quickly moved eastward away from the Kingdom. For these reasons, the snowfall was not widespread or even for a long period of time, as the snow turned into rain with the withdrawal of the same air mass this morning from the peaks of Ajloun and Jerash.
Here a question arises: Although the cold weather in the Kingdom has not become very cold, the southern regions have experienced snowfall and accumulation. In answer to this question, the southern mountains, specifically the Sharah Mountains, have a different characteristic than the rest of the Kingdom due to their high altitude above sea level, which reaches more than 1,600 meters above sea level. If we assume that the cold weather in the atmosphere allows snowfall to occur on the southern peaks, this does not necessarily mean that it allows snowfall to occur on the rest of the regions due to the difference in altitude above sea level.
We ask God for rain of goodness and blessings for everyone, and God’s will remains the basis.
