`Lionids` meteors raining the sky of the Arab world tonight with a bright celestial show

Weather of Arabia - The sky of the Arab world and the world is witnessing today, Wednesday, November 17, 2021, the peak of the Leonids meteor showers, which can be seen with the naked eye from a dark location, and without the need to use special monitoring devices.

It is expected that the Leonids meteor showers will reach their peak activity at about (09:00 pm Mecca time), and it is assumed that the highest number of meteors will be seen after their radiance point rises high in the sky in front of the Lion star group after midnight during the hours before sunrise on Thursday.

But since the moon is in the phase of increasing humpback and only one day away from its completion, it will affect the visibility of the activity of these meteors and obliterate many of them except for the bright meteors.

And the Jeddah Astronomical Society revealed, in a report, that the best time to try to observe the Leonids meteors directly will be before dawn with the sunset of the moon from a dark place, by observing the eastern horizon, where the meteors will appear in front of the constellation Leo, and can appear from anywhere in the sky.

It is noteworthy that the meteors of the Leonids are active from November 6-30 of each year, and their source is dust particles from the comet (Temple-Total), and it is one of the medium meteors, as it produces on average between 10 to 15 meteors per hour at its peak, but it is not known how many Meteors that will actually be observed, meteors are known to deviate from expectations.

It is worth noting that the Leonids meteors have an activity cycle that occurs every 33 years, where hundreds of them fall at one hour, and this happened last time in 2001, because the comet source of meteors was close at that time, but no meteor storm is expected this year 2021.
