Mandatory evacuation orders... Southeastern America is preparing for unprecedented rains as Tropical Storm Debbie approaches

Arab Weather - With Tropical Storm Debbie approaching hurricane force, some residents of Florida's Gulf coasts have received orders to evacuate their homes due to the possibility of unprecedented rains in the southeastern United States, according to the US National Hurricane Center.

The impact and strength of the storm

Storm Debby is accelerating in the Gulf of Mexico, and is expected to hit Florida's Big Bend area with hurricane force late Sunday. Before it weakens, the storm will continue to dump Florida, southeastern Georgia and South Carolina with massive amounts of rain over the next five days.

• Warnings and procedures

According to Mike Brennan of the National Hurricane Center, the entire west coast of Florida is under a tropical storm warning, and locals are urged to "seek somewhere safe by nightfall." By 8 a.m. (12:00 GMT), the storm was about 255 kilometers southwest of Tampa, packing winds of 100 kilometers per hour and moving toward the northwest.

• Evacuation orders and preparations

Local residents began preparing for the storm, and mandatory evacuation orders were issued for part of Citrus County, Florida, as well as voluntary evacuation orders in eight other counties. Hernando County Fire and Public Safety Chief Paul Hasenmeyer warned of rising waters as the storm passes, urging people to take the warnings seriously.

Meteorological forecasts and warnings

Brennan predicted "multiple days of torrential rain" that could break records, with the possibility of flash flooding in areas not accustomed to flooding, and meteorologists warned of the possibility of "life-threatening" storms, noting that Storm Debbie could cause... Hurricanes occur in Florida and Georgia.

United States President Joe Biden agreed to declare a state of emergency in Florida, which could speed up the provision of federal aid. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also decided to put the state's National Guard on alert to assist emergency response teams.
