ArabiaWeather.com- Morocco is preparing to inaugurate the largest solar power plant in the world at the end of this year, in a project called Noor, which will enable the country to cover 42% of its needs with renewable energies by 2020.

The final touches of the "Noor" project are currently being put in an area close to the eastern desert, under the sunshine that the country enjoys for more than 300 days a year.

The overall project aims to generate 580 megawatts, enough to supply one million homes with electricity, according to what the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy announced when the project was launched.

According to the estimates of the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Environment and Water, the operation of the "Noor 1" plant will reduce the emission of 240,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, provided that the reduction in the emission of this gas reaches 522,000 tons with the completion of the second and third phases (Noor 2). and light 3).

The Kingdom aspires to cover 42% of its needs with renewable energies, by taking advantage of the sun, wind and hydroelectric power. It is also planned to establish solar stations in other regions that, according to official figures, will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about nine million tons annually, starting from 2020. .
