Weather of Arabia - The official authorities in Syria announced a short while ago that the number of victims of the devastating earthquake that struck the region at dawn today has risen to 111 dead so far, in addition to hundreds of injured and trapped under the rubble.

For its part, the Turkish authorities announced that the number of victims had risen to 77 dead and 447 injured as a result of the earthquake, and rescue operations are still underway and the dead and injured are being recovered from under the rubble.

And the Turkish Emergency and Disaster Management said that an earthquake measuring 7.4 degrees on the Richter scale struck the Pazardik district of Kahramanmaraş state in southern Turkey, at a depth of 7 km at dawn today, while the American Institute of Seismology reported that the strength of the main tremor reached 7.8 degrees.

The earthquake lasted in Kahramanmaraş for about a minute, causing the destruction of dozens of buildings and a huge fire, according to video clips broadcast on social media.
