Weather of Arabia - For centuries ago, human societies in the world found different ways to honor nature and the environment and encourage their preservation. It falls on the last Friday of April, and Arbor Day this year will fall on Friday, April 28, 2023.
The origins of Arbor Day go back to the early 1870s in the US state of Nebraska. A journalist named Julius Sterling Morton moved to the state with his wife, Caroline, in 1870. The couple bought abandoned land and planted it with various types of trees and shrubs.
Morton also became the editor of the state's first newspaper, which was an ideal platform for Morton to spread his knowledge of trees and their ecological importance to Nebraska. His message about the importance of trees resonated with his readers, and on January 7, 1872, Morton proposed a day encouraging all Nebraskans to plant trees in their community - the event was It would originally be called "Sylvan Day" in reference to the forest trees, but Morton convinced everyone that the day should be a tribute to all kinds of trees, and so " Arbor Day " was born.
The first Tree Day was held on April 10, 1872 and was a great success, as Morton led a campaign in planting nearly 1 million trees, and prizes were given to encourage proper tree planting. The tradition soon spread, and schools across the country began participating in it, until Arbor Day became a public holiday in Nebraska in 1885.
As for choosing the date for the celebration of Arbor Day, April 22 was initially chosen because of its ideal weather for planting trees and in appreciation of Morton's birthday, then it became celebrated on the last Friday of April.
Within 20 years, Arbor Day has reached many countries and the concept of Arbor Day has spread in Japan and all over Europe, Canada and Australia, and now this day is given great attention due to the increasing awareness of the importance of trees in light of the climate and environmental changes taking place in the world.
