Arabiaweather.com - The Alhambra Palace is an ancient palace located in Granada, Spain, 430 km south of the capital, Madrid, and is a distinguished example of the palaces of Andalusia.
The palace extends over an area of 142,000 square meters, with a length of 740 meters and a maximum width of 205 meters.
It was built during the second half of the tenth century AD, corresponding to the fourth century AH, and it is considered one of the most important tourist attractions in Spain.
The features of Islamic architecture are evident in the buildings of the Al-Hamra Palace through carpet decorations, the writing of Quranic verses and supplications, and there are praises and descriptions of poets’ compositions, surrounded by decorations of colored plaster that cover the walls.
The palace is divided into three sections! The first is the consultation, in which the king convenes his council, the second is the official receptions section, the court and the Throne Hall, and the third is the harem section, which includes the residences of kings.
We mention among the most important features in the palace: the Great Basil Courtyard - the Hall of the Ambassadors - the Courtyard of Cypress - the Hall of the Two Sisters - the Hall of the Lions - the Kings Hall - the Queen's Dresser and others.
As for the reason for naming it the Alhambra Palace, there are several opinions. Some of them believe that it is derived from the Banu al-Ahmar, who are the Banu Nasr who ruled Granada between the years 1232-1492 AD, while others see that the name refers to the red soil that characterizes the hill on which it was built, and there are interpretations other too.
