Weather of Arabia - The head of the Jordanian Seismological Observatory, Ghassan Sweidan, announced, on Thursday, that talking about supposed dates for the occurrence of earthquakes is an "unscientific" topic and does not bear any basis, stressing that it is difficult to predict their occurrence.

Regarding the recent earthquake in Turkey, Sweidan revealed to The Kingdom that the Jordanian Seismological Observatory had recorded more than 700 earthquakes (aftershocks) with a magnitude ranging from 2.5 to 6.7 on the Richter scale.

And that "these reverberations were monitored by the devices, while the citizens felt the first two major tremors at the beginning, and they did not affect the buildings."

Sweidan pointed out that “the region always witnesses several earthquakes, which are mild and ineffective, and people do not feel much of them,” explaining that the Levant region is one of the seismically active regions throughout history, most of which are intangible.

Sweidan called for avoiding information circulated by non-professionals who publish information that has no scientific basis, or that is intended to intimidate and cause panic.
