From the Arab Weather Center - The latest high-resolution satellite images from the US space agency NASA show that several parts of the southwest and west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are covered with dense vegetation, as a result of those areas being affected by successive rain waves during the past weeks.
The same images show a significant increase in the level of vegetation cover on the mountains of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Madinah Al-Munawwarah, and it has even extended to some coastal plains and coasts of the same areas, which is an unusual occurrence.
Experts at the Arab Weather Center said that this widespread vegetation cover comes as a result of the western part of the Kingdom being exposed to severe wet waves during the past weeks, which led to the formation of heavy rainy weather conditions in those areas, accompanied by heavy flow of valleys and ravines. For example, Jizan recorded record amounts of rain in just one day, reaching 184 mm, and these numbers reflect the climatic conditions that the region, including the Kingdom, is going through.
It is worth noting that the National Center of Meteorology is working on studying the reality of vegetation cover areas and monitoring changes in the sites of afforestation projects, monitoring land cover and changes in its area, calculating rainfall amounts and vegetation cover density, measuring vegetation cover density, in addition to monitoring and controlling plant health, relying on the remote sensing and artificial intelligence technology program, within the framework of interest in developing vegetation cover and combating desertification.
The media team at the Arab Weather Center monitored tweets on the (x) platform, closely monitoring the reality of the vegetation cover, amid an atmosphere described by residents of those areas as unusual for the month of September!
