Weather of Arabia - The Geological Survey announced that an earthquake measuring 3.38 degrees on the Richter scale occurred northwest of the Tabuk region.

The authority said in a statement - via Twitter - that the stations of the National Seismic Monitoring Network of the Geological Hazards Center recorded an earthquake 48 km northwest of Tabuk, at a depth of 19.37 km.

The official spokesman for the Geological Survey, Tariq Aba Al-Khail, explained that the earthquake was caused by tectonic stresses from the Gulf of Aqaba and the northern Red Sea, which led to the reactivation of some of the old faults in the region.

The spokesperson assured the citizens and residents that the earthquake is considered weak on the Richter scale in terms of seismic magnitude and is not dangerous.

Aba Al-Khail indicated that the seismic monitoring stations of the Geological Survey did not record any aftershocks.
