This occurs when the tropical highland moves eastward, where dry and warm winds coming from within the Kingdom converge towards those highlands, with tropical winds coming from the south of the Red Sea. As a result of the expansion of the Sudan Depression, these winds converge over the mountainous areas in the southwest of the Kingdom. The terrain and mountainous heights contribute to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds, due to the increase in the force of condensation, as these areas have lower temperatures and increase the effectiveness of atmospheric instability.

The areas where rain is concentrated are Jazan, Najran, Asir, Abha, Al-Baha, the Taif Heights and Mecca, and it also sometimes extends to the Medina region, as these rains are sometimes heavy and accompanied by lightning, thunder, and hail showers, and they cause the valleys and reefs to flow, forming torrents.
