Weather of Arabia - The Shuaiba Solar Energy Project is one of the renewable energy projects affiliated with the Ministry of Energy, and recorded the lowest cost of purchasing electricity produced from solar energy in the world, reaching 1.04 US cents per kilowatt hour.
Al-Shuaiba Holding Company relies in completing its operations on the use of N-type bifacial monocrystalline silicon chips and modules with a maximum power of (605, 610 and 615) watts, and Si-mono cell technology. The solar photovoltaic modules will be installed on single-axis solar trackers oriented north and south, embedded in metal structures combining galvanized steel, to form a stable structure on the ground.
Single-axis trackers are designed to minimize the incidence angle between incoming sunlight and the plane of the PV panel. The tracking system consists of an electronic device capable of following the sun during daytime, so that the inverter used converts the direct current generated by the photovoltaic modules into alternating current.
The power conversion from DC to AC depends on one or several stages, each of which is equipped with a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system. So that the low/medium voltage transformer is installed in the enclosure and for external installation.
The main transformer of the PV substation is a three-phase oil immersed in three windings on the load voltage regulation transformer. While the power is transmitted through the overhead transmission line to the existing SEC substation; The operating voltage is 110 kV.
The Shuaiba projects, “Shuaiba 1” and “Shuaiba 2”, are located in the Shuaiba Center in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, and their production capacity will reach 600 megawatts and 2,031 megawatts, respectively, and it is expected that they will contribute to supplying about 450,000 residential units with electrical energy at a total investment cost. Totaling 8.3 billion riyals ($2.37 billion), commercial operations are scheduled to begin in 2025.
The Shuaiba Solar Power Plants (1 and 2) clearly and distinctly reflect Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The launch of these two plants represents an exceptional step that reinforces the country’s commitment to increasing the use of renewable energy sources and achieving a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
These initiatives highlight the serious efforts made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to diversify its available energy sources and achieve its international obligations in the field of environmental conservation.
The two Shuaiba solar power plants are at the heart of Saudi Arabia's energy transformation strategy, and this is fully in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
The two Shuaiba solar power plants are a living example of the country’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing its environmental capabilities by adopting a high standard for developing renewable energy on a large scale. These solar plants also reflect the efforts of the Saudi government in achieving a balance between sustainability and energy needs, and go beyond its role as a mere energy producer to a broader role. Promotes the development of renewable energy infrastructure.
These efforts directly support the key goal of Vision 2030, which is to promote environmentally responsible growth by significantly reducing carbon emissions, thus, significantly enhancing the achievement of this key goal of the Vision.
On the other hand, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s shift towards renewable energy contributes to promoting economic diversification, innovation and promoting job development, and this comes at a time when the adoption of green energy is encouraged on a global scale as an alternative, as these facilities portray the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a strong supporter of environmental conservation. , and reflects her role as a sustainable-minded leader.
The country's interest in environmentally friendly energy sources comes at a time when interest in protecting the environment is greatly increasing, which ultimately makes Saudi Arabia an inspiring model of sustainability and a contributor to paving the way towards a more environmentally friendly future for humanity as a whole.
The Shuaiba Solar Power Plants (1 and 2) are considered prominent symbols of the transformation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards a future that relies heavily on solar energy.
These mega projects, with a capacity of 2.6 gigawatts, demonstrate Saudi Arabia's desire to move beyond its oil-based past.
