Prince Badr is considered a prominent figure who made tangible efforts in establishing and developing Arabic literature, as he drafted literary texts. It varies between flirtation, pride, and lamentation, in addition to reviewing the social and political reality in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab world.

The head of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, Counselor Turki Al-Sheikh, mourned Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen in a tweet via his account on the “X” platform, where he said:

“May God have mercy on the poet Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen, and forgive him and place him in spacious paradise. My condolences to his honorable family, his children, the honorable House of Saud, and the Saudi people. Sad news, and I feel I have lost a father of mine, but all I can say is praise be to God in any case.”

Who is Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen?

Answer: The poet Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, nicknamed “The Architect of the Word,” was born in Riyadh on April 2, 1949 AD (Jumada al-Akhirah 4, 1368 AH) and died on May 4, 2024 AD (Shawwal 25, 1445 AH).

He is considered one of the most prominent pioneers of poetic modernism in the Arabian Peninsula, as he made great efforts in writing literary texts of a high standard that combine poetry, pride, lamentation, and the social and political reality of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arab world.
He was honored with the King Abdulaziz Sash by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz in 2019.
Prince Badr grew up in a house of science and literature, where his father loved science and literature. He was a creative poet and had a huge library that included many books. His father’s council was full of scholars, writers, and great thinkers, which greatly influenced Prince Badr’s love for literature and poetry.
He studied his primary stages between Saudi Arabia and Egypt, his secondary stage in Riyadh, and completed his studies in Britain and the United States of America.
He collaborated with a large number of great poets, composers and singers, and he was honored and a theater was named after him in 2019.
In March 2021, the Literature, Publishing and Translation Authority announced its intention to collect and print the complete works of Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen in implementation of the directive of the Saudi Minister of Culture, and in March 2023, he was honored at the conclusion of the Al-Qurain Cultural Festival in the State of Kuwait by choosing the festival’s character.
