Dr. Al-Shaibi is considered the seventy-seventh ruler since the conquest of Mecca during the era of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, and the one hundred and ninth ruler since the era of Qusay bin Kilab. His lineage goes back to Shaybah bin Uthman bin Abi Talha, to whom the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Take it, O Banu Talha, forever and ever. No one can take it away from you except an oppressor.”
Dr. Saleh Al-Shaibi was born in Mecca in 1366 AH, and grew up in an ancient family that was famous for its support of the Holy Kaaba for centuries. He obtained a doctorate in Islamic studies from Umm Al-Qura University, and worked as a university professor for many years. He assumed the position of Grand Priest of the Holy House of God in 1980, succeeding his uncle Sheikh Abdul Qadir Al-Shaibi, and remained in this position until his death.
During his tenure as chief of the Holy Kaaba, Dr. Al-Shaibi was interested in preserving the sanctity of the Kaaba and its maintenance, as he cleaned and washed it himself more than 100 times, wrote many books and articles in Islamic studies, and participated in many scientific conferences and seminars.

Dr. Saleh Al-Shaibi, we ask God for the highest paradise for him. He is the 77th lord since the conquest of Mecca during the reign of the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace. He is the grandson of “Shaybah bin Othman bin Abi Talha,” to whom the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Take her, O son of Talha, forever and ever, and no one will take her away from you except the unjust.” pic.twitter.com/rpoPbXh4g8- Yahya Al Shaiban (@yyy58019245) June 22, 2024
The profession of gardener is considered one of the oldest and most honorable professions in the Holy Mosque of Mecca. The sadhan is the only person who holds the key to the Holy Kaaba, and is responsible for all its affairs, from changing its covering to washing and perfuming it and opening and closing it. This distinguished profession has been confined to the Al-Shaibi family since the conquest of Mecca at the beginning of the Islamic era, when the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, ordered that the sadhan be for the companion Shaybah. Bin Othman bin Abi Talha and his descendants after him.
