Arab Weather - The weather forecasts issued this morning, Tuesday 10-22-2024, still indicate that the Kingdom will be increasingly affected in the coming days and at the end of the week by a cold wave that will coincide with a clear drop in temperatures, especially at night, resulting from the rush of a colder than usual air mass coming from southeast Europe.

The air mass is rushing towards the Kingdom with a dry axis.

Weather forecasters at Arab Weather said that the cold mass will rush from southeast Europe in a dry axis towards Iraqi and Iranian territories, and this coincides with the concentration of a surface high pressure system to the southeast of Europe, which will help push easterly winds towards the Kingdom, which will increase the feeling of coldness, especially during the night, dawn and early morning hours.

The scientific reason behind the increased feeling of coldness during the east wind

The easterly winds often blow over the Kingdom after a high pressure system is located to the east of the region, or when the Red Sea depression is active during the fall, or when the Siberian high pressure system extends towards the region. Because the source of the winds in these cases is from the east, i.e. from a dry continental path devoid of water bodies, the winds coming from the east cool down as they cross over land, and their temperature decreases and their density increases due to their continental coldness. Therefore, when they arrive and have a direct impact on the region, they are cold and increase the feeling of coldness, especially during periods when solar radiation decreases, i.e. evening, night, and early morning.

Therefore, often during the fall and winter when easterly winds blow towards the Kingdom, the perceived temperature becomes much lower than the actual recorded temperature, which is recorded by meteorological stations at a height of 2 meters above the ground. For example, if the expected temperature at night is 10 degrees Celsius, the perceived temperature can drop to less than 5 degrees at times, and the feeling of cold increases for many.
