Arab Weather - On October 12, 1992 AD, specifically at 3:00 pm local time in Egypt, the land of Cairo shook due to a devastating earthquake measuring 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale, causing 545 deaths and 6512 injuries, in addition to the displacement of more than 50,000 people.
The international seismological bodies identified the epicenter of the earthquake in the city of "Dahshour", 35 kilometers to the southwest of the city of Cairo. The earthquake lasted for about half a minute.
The duration of the earthquake, poor infrastructure, and the spread of random mud buildings were a major reason behind the high numbers of victims compared to the strength of the earthquake, as statistics indicated that the earthquake caused partial and total collapse of more than 9000 thousand homes.
