Arab weather - Sinan Khalaf - Thunderstorms are one of the weather phenomena that different regions of the world are exposed to from time to time with varying degrees of intensity, but they certainly increase in concentration in certain regions, whether at the level of the world or at the level of the Arab world, and we will remind you of their focus areas in detail :
Thunderstorms are concentrated in the world in the tropics, or near large bodies of water with warm temperatures, and the occurrence of lightning accompanying thunderstorms is concentrated on land more than on the seas.
The number of lightning strikes per square kilometer increases dramatically in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania, while it decreases dramatically in the polar, desert, and cold regions of the oceans.
The areas of southern Sudan, in addition to the highlands of Yemen and southwestern Saudi Arabia, are the most vulnerable Arab regions to lightning and lightning strikes. One square kilometer of these areas is exposed to approximately 50 electric lightning strikes as a result of the impact of rain clouds.
In second place come the coasts of the Levant and the Maghreb, the Atlas heights, and the Hajar Heights between Oman and the Emirates, where a square meter of some of these areas receives approximately 10-20 lightning bolts.
The Arab regions less prone to thunderstorms are the desert regions between Egypt, Libya and northwestern Sudan, as rain falls in these areas only very rarely.
