In the Greek era (332-63) BC, the first scientific academic university in the Arab East was established (University of Gadara), and it included several colleges, as its university gained, during the reign of the Emperor (Augustus), regional fame in the ancient world and became famous as a global habitat for university professors, writers, artists, philosophers, men of letters and poets, and it emerged as a creative center for Hellenic civilization in the ancient Near East, and the best sons studied there. The city and the neighboring regions coming from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Cyprus, Greece and Italy, and the elite of scholars, writers, philosophers, academics and intellectuals graduated from its university.
The ten Greek cities, including Jedar, were at the height of their splendor during the days of the activity of the Lord Christ and the preaching of His message. Their land was the first land that Christ, peace be upon Him, set foot on in eastern Jordan (the country of the Jedarites), the city of Jedar (Umm Qais), coming from the land of Galilee, and that was in late August. September 28 AD; It is the only region in Jordan that Jesus Christ visited during his short call period, and he stayed there for about six months and showed some of his miracles there.
The first Muslims were aware of its geographical and political importance. To the north of a wall and on the slopes of the Yarmouk region in northern Jordan, the most important decisive battle in the Rashidun Islamic history took place, the Battle of Yarmouk on (20 August 636 AD), and the battle resulted in the entry of the Levant region entirely under Islamic control. .
