Arab Weather - Astronomer and member of the Arab Union for Space Sciences and Astronomy, Imad Mujahid, said that the star "Suhail" will appear in the sky of the Arabian Peninsula at dawn this weekend, while it will be visible in the sky of Jordan and the Middle East during the first week of next September, indicating the approach of a drop in temperatures and the approach of the September rainy season, which may lead to the formation of floods in several areas of the Arabian Peninsula and the Levant.

Mujahed explained on Sunday that the appearance of this star on approximately August 23 of each year is an indication of the change of seasons, and it was previously relied upon instead of current astronomical calculations to determine the dates of the beginning of the seasons and the occurrence of rain.

He pointed out that the appearance of the star "Suhail" is linked to the gradual decline in summer heat, and the beginning of the moderation of the weather at night, followed by the entry of the "Wasm" account after 52 days, which if coincides with rainfall, brings goodness to land and sea, and contributes to the growth of various types of plants that only appear at this time, such as "truffles" or "faqa".

He added that the star "Suhail" is divided into four houses, starting with "Al-Tarfa" which lasts for 13 days, where the weather becomes pleasant at night while remaining hot during the day, followed by "Al-Jabha" which lasts for 13 days and is considered the beginning of "autumn", where the night cools and the weather improves during the day. Then comes "Al-Zira" which also lasts for 13 days, where the night gets colder to the point where it is advised not to sleep under the open sky, and finally "Al-Sarfa" which is the last house of the star "Suhail" and lasts for 13 days, and it was named so because the heat disappears when it rises.

Mujahed pointed out that the US space agency NASA relied on the star "Suhail" as a reference in space navigation for vehicles that left the boundaries of the solar system towards galactic space, adding that modern astronomy gave the name "Suhail" to a faint star that is different from the star "Suhail" known historically in Arab culture.

It is noteworthy that the star "Suhail", which the Arabs in the pre-Islamic era called by several names such as: Al-Wazn, Waseem, Lamea, Al-Nabil, Al-Majid, and Suhail Al-Yemeni, appears alone in a reddish-white color and shines in the southern horizon.
