ArabiaWeather.com- Archaeologists have discovered the missing head of a Greek sphinx at the entrance to an ancient necropolis, in northeastern Greece, according to the Greek Ministry of Culture, after archaeologists made their way to the inner chambers.

The cemetery, which was discovered at the "Amphipolis" site, about 100 km from Thessaloniki, dates back to the era of Alexander the Great. This cemetery is the largest ancient cemetery discovered in Greece.

The archaeologists said that the discovered head was made of marble and carved in the form of curly hair hanging on the left shoulder of the head, and it had traces of a color closer to red.

The excavations, which began in the cemetery since 2012, did not determine the identity of the burial inside the tomb, which belonged to a prominent Macedonian from 300 to 325 BC, according to officials at the Greek Ministry of Culture.
