The following statement was made by the General Secretariat of the European Council for Fatwa and Research:

“On determining the beginning of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal for the year 1445 AH - 2024 AD”

Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon whom God sent as a mercy to the worlds, and upon his family and companions, and whoever follows his path until the Day of Judgment, and after.

The General Secretariat of the European Council for Fatwa and Research takes advantage of these blessed days to call on all Muslims to hold fast to the rope of God Almighty, to unite ranks, and to unite, remembering the words of God Almighty:

“And hold fast to the rope of God all together and do not become divided, and remember the favor God has bestowed upon you when you were enemies and He united your hearts so that by His grace you became brothers.” ……. Verse 103 Al Imran.

We also ask God Almighty to accept everyone’s fasting, prayers, and good deeds, and to make these blessed days good and a blessing for His servants on earth. He is the Guardian of that and the One who is capable of it.

The General Secretariat takes this opportunity to announce regarding the crescent of the months of Ramadan and Shawwal for the Hijri year 1445 AH 2024 AD, according to the decisions of the first session of the Unified Hijri Calendar Committee held in the city of Istanbul in the period between (26-29) Dhul-Hijjah 1389 AH corresponding to (27-30) November. 1978 AD, and based on what was confirmed by the International Fiqh Council in its Resolution No. (18) in its third conference of 1986 AD, and according to the conditions adopted by the European Council for Fatwa and Research in its decision taken at its nineteenth regular session in the period 8-12 Rajab 1430 AH corresponding to June 30 - 4 July 2009 AD, as well as what was issued by the scientific symposium that was held in Paris during the period 12-13 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1433 AH, corresponding to February 4 and 5 2012 AD, and its topic was:

“The beginning of the Hijri months and the Hijri calendar,” which was attended by a group of scholars of jurisprudence and astronomy, and several jurisprudential and astronomical research and studies were presented, as well as what was issued by the International Conference to prove the lunar months among scholars of Sharia and astronomical calculations, and based on what was confirmed by the International Islamic Jurisprudence Academy of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in The period from 19-21 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1433 AH, corresponding to February 11-13, 2012 AD, in which a large number of jurists and astronomers participated, and what was issued by the International Hijri Calendar Unification Conference, which was held in Istanbul in the period 21-23 Shaban 1437 AH, corresponding to May 28-30. 2016 AD, and more than seventy countries participated in it, represented by a number of ministries of endowments, fatwa houses, scholars, jurists, and astronomers, in addition to representatives of most of the academies and jurisprudence councils in the world, which approved a set of basic principles and standards, the most important of which is: that the principle of starting the month is to prove This is done by a definitive means, and that the scientific astronomical calculation tells us in advance and definitively about the possibility of timing the correct sighting, and cannot contradict its realization, and that the differences in horoscopes do not matter; For the general meaning of the discourse: “Fast when you see it and break your fast when you see it.” Agreed upon, and his saying, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him: “Your fast is the day you fast, your breakfast is the day you break your fast, and your sacrifice is the day you sacrifice.” Narrated by Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and Al-Tirmidhi and authenticated by Al-Tirmidhi.

Accordingly, the General Secretariat announces the following:

Accurate astronomical calculations regarding the crescent of the month of Ramadan for the year 1445 AH confirm that the conjunction will be at 09:01 (nine minutes in the morning) according to Universal Standard Time (Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)) on Sunday (10) March 2024 AD, corresponding to 29 Shaban 1445 AH, which corresponds to 12 o’clock. :01 according to the local time of Mecca.

Accordingly, the crescent can be seen after sunset on the 29th of Shaban 1445 AH in the Americas over a wide range of them.

Thus, the month of Shaban this year has 29 days.

It will be the first holy month of Ramadan 1445 AH

God willing, on Monday, March 11, 2024 AD.

Regarding the crescent of Shawwal for the year 1445 AH - 2024 AD

Accurate astronomical calculations for the crescent of Shawwal for the year 1445 AH confirm that the conjunction will be at 18:21 according to Universal Standard Time (GMT) on Monday (08) April 2024 AD, corresponding to Ramadan 29, 1445 AH, which corresponds to 21:21 according to local time. To Mecca.

Accordingly, it is impossible to see the crescent for the month of Shawwal 1445 AH after sunset on Monday, April 8, 2024 AD, corresponding to Ramadan 29, 1445 AH, in any spot on Earth with the naked eye or using a telescope and monitoring devices.

Thus, the holy month of Ramadan 1445 AH will be 30 days long, God Almighty willing.
