ArabiaWeather.com - Archaeological experts in China said that the condition of a large part of the Great Wall of China - one of the world's most visited monuments - is in deterioration and that "prospects are not optimistic" due to lack of funds.
The Secretary-General of the China Wall Authority, Wu Guoqiang, told the official Chinese news agency (Xinhua), that three-quarters of the wall is in bad condition, as he confirmed that "only 10 percent of the wall is in relatively good condition."
Pointing out that there are only foundations in some parts of the wall, and that both humans and natural phenomena such as earthquakes, floods and erosion represent "serious threats" to the impact that the United Nations Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included in the list of human heritage in 1987.
It is noteworthy that the bulk of the Great Wall of China passes through deserted areas, which makes protecting it difficult, so that this historical monument, which was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is easily exposed to damage, whether human or natural.
