The Ministry of Water expects the per capita share of water to decrease to less than 30 cubic meters

Arab Weather - The spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salama, confirmed that Jordan is the poorest country in the world in terms of per capita water share , as the Jordanian individual's share amounts to about 60 cubic meters annually, compared to the global average of 500 cubic meters.

Salama pointed out during his talk to the media on Wednesday that the individual share in Jordan is expected to decrease to less than 30 cubic meters in the coming years due to the lack of rain and the decline in rainfall.

He explained that the current dam stock is 57 million cubic metres, compared to 87 million cubic metres in the same period last year, stressing that the groundwater situation is "very difficult" due to the decline in groundwater basins.

National carrier

Salama stressed the importance of the national carrier project, noting that it is a vital and strategic project, and that negotiations regarding it are ongoing daily.

He pointed out that a meeting was held between the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority to accelerate the implementation of the project.

Water loss

Regarding water loss , the spokesman for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation confirmed that it had been reduced by 6% over the past two years, to currently reach 46%.

Salama added that the efforts made contributed to saving about 7 million cubic meters annually.

The season is just beginning

Salama pointed out that the scenarios related to the rainy season are still in their early stages, stressing that the ministry is working hard to secure citizens' water needs to a reasonable extent despite the major challenges.

Climate change

For his part, the spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Lawrence Al-Majali, said that it is too early to talk about a water crisis in the agricultural sector.

Al-Majali added that the government has prepared measures to adapt to climate change.

Seasonal influenza

For his part, the Director of the Epidemiology Department at the Ministry of Health, Ayman Al-Muqabala, said that the H1N1 influenza virus has become a seasonal influenza, and the infection rate increases in cold, dry weather.

The interview indicated that the Epidemiology Department monitors all viruses in selected areas, indicating that 74 cases of H1N1 were recorded last week, compared to 71 during the same period last year.
