Arab Weather - The National Center for Earthquakes in Syria announced that 13 aftershocks were recorded following the earthquake that struck the country and several other countries, including Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine, last night.
The center's statement said: "Monitoring stations recorded 13 tremors east of Hama city until 8:00 am today, the largest of which measured 5.3 on the Richter scale, while subsequent tremors were weaker." It added that "the main tremor was the result of energy accumulation during the previous period in secondary faults associated with the Dead Sea fault."
The statement indicated that "we had previously indicated the possibility of tremors with a magnitude ranging between 3 and 5 degrees by 30% due to the noticeable change in seismic activity in a range extending from the south of the city of Tartous to Hama."
