ArabiaWeather.com - The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has announced the commencement of construction of the fourth nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, as part of the "largest nuclear construction program in the world".

Yesterday, Wednesday, NOC officials told reporters that the country achieved a new record in the process of implementing the UAE peaceful nuclear program, as the Barakah Peaceful Nuclear Energy Plant in Abu Dhabi became the first site in the world where four identical nuclear plants are being built simultaneously.

And they announced that «the new station will enter into operation in 2020, while the three stations will be operated in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively».

And they added at a ceremony held at the construction site, "With the commencement of the construction work of the fourth station, the Barakah nuclear energy site will surpass the nuclear sites in China, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Russia, thus becoming the largest site that includes the construction of four identical nuclear plants in one site at the same time."

Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy, said, "Nuclear energy will play an important role in providing sustainable energy for the UAE in the future, and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation has succeeded in implementing projects that meet the highest international requirements for safety, quality and performance, to ensure the sustainability of the UAE's peaceful nuclear program in the long term." .

He continued, "Since its establishment in 2009, the Corporation has focused on the safe implementation of the peaceful nuclear program, and was able to manage the difficulties encountered at the site with great experience to ensure that all construction operations comply with the highest standards of safety and quality."

Mohammed Al Hammadi, CEO of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, said: “With the start of construction operations for the fourth nuclear plant, the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation will become responsible for the largest nuclear construction program in the world, as about 18,000 employees work on the site to achieve the vision of the institution that seeks to provide nuclear energy.” Safe and environmentally friendly for the UAE in 2017.

He continued, "The Foundation's efforts are focused on focusing on a culture of safety in the extensive construction program at the Barakah site, and it is always committed to safety in all ongoing activities at the site, to provide a safe working environment for thousands of employees on the site daily."

The four reactors are scheduled to provide about 5,600 megawatts of electric power, and the completion rate of the first station has exceeded 75 percent, while the total completion rate of the project has reached more than 50 percent.

In 2020, the ENEC team will be responsible for operating the plants that will provide about a quarter of the UAE's electricity needs and contribute to reducing carbon emissions by about 12 million tons annually.
