Tropical Storm Christine Heads Towards Philippines, Expected to Develop into a Tropical Cyclone in Coming Days

Arab Weather - Satellite images at the Arab Weather Center monitored the development of a tropical depression in the western Pacific Ocean, which the competent authorities named "Christine" after it developed into a tropical storm heading towards the Philippines. According to the latest computer models, there is a high probability that the storm will turn into a hurricane before crossing the north of the country in the coming days.

Storm Christine heads west, forecast to develop into a tropical cyclone

Christine is expected to move generally westward through tomorrow morning (October 22) before turning northwestward tomorrow afternoon. The tropical storm is expected to make landfall over northern Luzon by Friday (October 25).

Computer maps indicate that Christine will develop into a tropical cyclone before reaching the northeast of Cagayan. As this tropical storm is still over the Philippine Sea, further development is likely due to favorable environmental conditions (high sea surface temperatures and low air shear) in the region. Changes in the forecast track cannot be ruled out, depending on the movement of mid-latitude weather systems over the coming days.

The Pacific hurricane season is divided into two main periods by region:

Eastern and Central Pacific: The official hurricane season runs from May 15 to November 30, with peak activity typically occurring between July and September. During this period, the chances of hurricanes forming increase due to warmer sea surface temperatures and favorable weather conditions. Activity begins to taper off by mid-October.

Western Pacific (typhoon season): extends from June to December, with peak activity in July and September. Typhoons in this region are similar to tropical cyclones but form in the western Pacific and mostly affect Southeast Asia.
