Arab Weather - The Director of the Jordan Maritime Authority, Engineer Muhammad Al-Salman, said that the Jordanian Maritime Authority is closely following a leak from an oil tanker in the Bab al-Mandab Strait in Yemen.

He added that the Jordanian Maritime Authority had taken strict measures to prepare for any oil spill from the oil tanker docked at Bab al-Mandab.

Al-Salman explained that Jordan discussed with the countries bordering the Red Sea the issue of the tanker, adding that this oil tanker is a time bomb, and any oil spill has repercussions on the marine environment and on the beaches overlooking the Red Sea, including the Aqaba beach.

Al-Salman indicated that the National Center for Security and Crisis Management showed great interest in the measures taken by the Maritime Authority to confront any possible oil spill.

Regarding the geographical distance, the Director of the Maritime Authority indicated that the distance between Aqaba and Bab al-Mandab is far, but it is possible for the oil spill to reach through different routes.
