Arab Weather - A huge fire, called the "Mountain Fire", swept through areas northwest of Los Angeles in Southern California, continuing for the second day in a row today, Thursday.

The fire, which was rapidly intensified by strong winds, destroyed dozens of homes and forced thousands of residents to flee after doubling in size within hours.

Evacuation Orders and State of Emergency in California

The fire has prompted authorities to order more than 10,000 people to evacuate since Wednesday, threatening about 3,500 buildings in suburban, farm and agricultural areas around the city of Camarillo, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement. The Ventura County Fire Department said the fire was not under control as of late Tuesday night.

Additional fire warnings

The National Weather Service said a "red flag" warning, indicating a high potential for additional fires, will remain in effect until 6 p.m. The agency said winds are expected to ease by Thursday evening, which could help the fire.

The Mountain Fire is spreading through an area that has seen some of the deadliest fires in California history. Thick smoke has blanketed entire neighborhoods, making it difficult for firefighters and evacuees to navigate through the smoky conditions.
